The guillotine
The streets of Paris are red.
Aristocrats are lined up, one by one.
Eyes dull and lifeless,
Their splendor muddy and grimy.

One by one they are lead.
Up to the guillotine.
And one by one, the guillotine
Slowly claims more lives.

Widows and children look out from doorways,
No way to get food.
Gaunt faces show the hunger
These people face.

The crowd cheers as the judge
Yells “Guilty!”.
The aristocrat is pushed up the stairs.
Without warning, the guillotine falls.

This, my friend, is the French Revolution.

Haiku

Autumn
In Autumn leaves fall
Turning brown, yellow and red.
Dying on the ground.

Limericks

Reckless riding
Now Megan – a reckless young rider,
Would gallop though others would chide her.
She came tumbling down,
And fractured her crown.
Next time she will hang on much tighter.

Puns

A woman got attacked by a container of salt – she yelled out “Assault!”

My nose is running.
Well, catch it!

There once was a ruler of a country – he was only 30 centimetres tall!

The girl couldn’t find the pear of shoes.

She was a plain sort of girl.

“How much do you think it will cost to tile the flaw?” he asked.

It would have gone well, but there was a floor in the plan.

Metaphor

Mosquito
My sister is a mosquito,
Always buzzing around trying to get your attention.
She flies around the house,
Buzzing with energy.
Until it annoys you so much you want a fly swatter.
And when you cry out “Leave me alone!”,
She always comes back later.
My sister is a mosquito,
And I really, really would appreciate it if someone turned her into a normal person.

Simile

A companion
A dog is like a friend,
A companion there ‘till the end.
A dog is like a cyclone,
Breaking things you always need to mend.

A possum is like a burglar,
Giving you a fright.
A possum is like a night watch man,
Only active at night.
